The Crescent | Ceramic Art Mug | Hattiesburg, MS
Celebrate Hattiesburg’s railroad heritage with the Hattiesburg Train Depot. Completed in 1910 by the Southern Railway Company, this historic landmark helped establish Hattiesburg as “The Hub City,” where major rail lines converged and connected the growing city to destinations across the country. During both World Wars, its platforms welcomed hundreds of thousands of servicemen traveling to and from nearby Camp Shelby.
Saved from demolition and beautifully restored, the depot continues its original purpose more than a century later as an active stop on Amtrak’s Crescent route between New Orleans and New York. Today, its historic Grand Hall and grounds also welcome community events, art shows, celebrations, and visitors from near and far.
Created from an original photograph using photo transfer and hand-rendered techniques, this mixed-media artwork captures the character of the historic platform and its unmistakable HATTIESBURG sign—a reminder of generations of arrivals, departures, and homecomings in the Hub City.
Enjoy your favorite coffee or tea while celebrating the landmark that helped put Hattiesburg on the map—and keeps the Hub City connected today.
